BACKGROUND
Canal+ was premiering Mad Men in Spain and wanted to promote it within the advertising industry. At that time no one in Spain knew anything about this show set in the 60’s about a New York ad agency.
IDEA
We conducted a fictitious interview with Don Draper, Creative Director at Sterling Cooper, and published it in specialized media. The interview taunted Spanish ad men and announced the opening of his agency in Spain to “change the way advertising was done”. We also posted job offers on various industry newspapers with a phone number where people could leave their applications. There, a machine answered and invited you to leave a message, and told you that if you wanted to know more you would have to wait until May 18th, the debut date of the show on Canal+.
RESULTS
A large part of the advertising world in Spain believed Sterling Cooper was opening its agency in Madrid. We got hundred of messages on our answering machine asking for job interviews. Finally, on May 8th, Canal+ debut Mad Men and a large part of the industry got hooked thanks to this campaign.
